Samadai Dolphin House: snorkelling or diving?
Updated October 18, 2026 · 5 min read
Shaab Samadai, the Dolphin House reef, is sold from Marsa Alam in three quite different ways: a long boat day where you choose between snorkelling and diving, a guided snorkelling day, and a short speedboat run. Which one fits depends mostly on how many hours you want to spend getting there and back. None of them can promise dolphins.
Three listings, three kinds of day
The boat trip with snorkelling or diving lasts 8 hours and costs €56 per person. Its description offers three options: snorkelling, an introductory dive or a certified dive, with lunch and refreshments on board. It is the natural pick when one person in your group wants to dive and another only wants to snorkel, because both can sit on the same boat.
The guided snorkelling day, Dolphin House Adventure at Shaab Samadai Reef, takes 7 hours and costs €80.75. It has by far the most reviews of any Samadai offer (331, against 64 and 4), and its description mentions coral gardens, fish and rays. It costs about €25 more than the 8-hour boat trip, and the description does not say what the difference buys. Read the inclusions side by side before paying the premium.
The speedboat trip runs 3 hours from Tondoba Bay with two snorkel stops, on a shared or a private boat, and starts at €21. It is the cheapest and shortest way to the reef, but it has only 4 reviews, so treat its 4.0 rating as a hint, not a verdict.
Do not mix up the reef names: a separate listing visits the Sataya Dolphin House (9 hours, €72). Check the name in the title before you compare prices.
How to choose
Choose the speedboat if you want to snorkel and only have about three hours to spare. Choose the 8-hour boat if your group includes a diver, or someone curious about a first dive, and you are happy to give it a full day. Choose the guided snorkelling day if you want the most-reviewed option and a day one hour shorter than the boat trip.
For the dive options, ask what certification or health information the operator needs and whether equipment is included. For every option, ask for the pickup time from your own hotel: the coast around Marsa Alam is long, and the descriptions we have do not say whether the listed duration includes the transfer.
Wild dolphins are exactly that. The speedboat text says to watch for them; none of the descriptions promises an encounter. Book the reef and the day, and count any dolphin as a bonus.
